Im a 16 year old girl, and im required to share a room with my 9 year old brother, who loves his legos and toys. There is just not enough room in our little room, and his stuff always gets mixed up with mine. He refuses to pick up his stuff when he is done, and I need some help on getting organized, and teaching him to get organized. This is a real problem, lol.

In our room, we have a
bunk bed,
a 5 shelf bookcase,
a 7 drawer desk,
and a 6 drawer dresser.

there is not enough room in the closet with the toybox to put anything, and all of my clothes wont even fit hanging up in there.

any advice/tips?

thank you muchhh.

You could help him get organized by donating the things that he doesn't play with anymore. That way he has a place to put his things. You could also have your mom buy a bunch of Rubbermaid containers so he can have a place for his things.

Also, make sure you are setting a good example and cleaning up after yourself when you are done with your things. If he sees you are doing it, he might want to do it as well. And make sure you ask him nicely to put his things away. Maybe you could offer to help him pick his things up as well.

When my sister and I had to share a room we picked one day a week and did a major clean up of the room. We put everything where it belonged on that day so we always knew where our own stuff was.

Sounds like you have a sibling problem! My first thing I would look at is to see if you would be able to split the beds up into 2 beds to make it have your's and his space. And once that was done put the beds on risers so you would have more space for
storage.

Then I would see if you could put the dresser into the closet. Also he is nine now, so maybe you could get him to go through his toys and donate to charity or something?? Once he has done that, if he did, get some under the bed storage containers and he could put his toys there, thus getting rid of the toy box. You could go through your clothes and put the out of season things under your bed in the same containers, that way you have more room.

Also, Maybe you could get rid of your desk?? Keep a desk, just have a smaller one. Really it's all about space on the floor to make it feel bigger

If you are able to split the beds, or even just have your own space or side to the room, I'd get a curtain of some sort to divide the space and create some privacy.

With the bookcase I would say to let you use the top and top 2 shelves for storage, including use of containers for smaller items. Use of containers in open areas like that also frees the eye from stopping on so many items, creating the look of more space. And let him use the rest of the shelves.

Also consider using the back of your door for storage. They have systems for shoes and other storage now and that way you have more free space. Like I said it's all about free space and not having clutter.

Without knowing the size of the room and dimensions of the items you want to put in it I can't really give you too much more. I wish I could give you more, but hope this helps!!
Good luck with the Brother!

Sorry you have to share a room with a brother, but on the bright side . . . you will be leaving for college in 2 years soooo, whooopeee !
At 9 years old, all you can do is get an under bed box and toss them all in there when you come in.
And since it is so small, you can spend lots of time at the library studying for your ACT or SAT ! and other classes.
Good luck to you
