Hi! I am from Spain and, although horrified of it, I have to confess that the national flower is the carnation. If you go to Andalucia you will see lots of pots in the windowsills containing either carnations of geraniums, but as a cut flower, is the boring carnation. I have to say though, that sometimes the carnation's scent is amazing! I used to work in flower shops in Ireland and UK for a while and could not understand why, off all flowers in the world we had to choose that one, if you take in consideration that Canary Islands are big growing exotic flower to export. The pomegranate is a fruit and it is the symbol of the city of Granada (pomegranate in Spanish is granada, same as the city). You can find all kind of souvenirs in Granada with the pomegranate on them.
I hope this answer your question.

Begonia or it should be. However many European countries do not have a national flower, for instance modern France, Spain and Italy. Many that do have adopted them in the last 40 years.

Spain sometimes uses the Pomegranite as a emblem. The Pomegranate (Punica granatum) is a fruit-bearing deciduous shrub or small tree growing to 5–8 m tall. The pomegranate is native from Iran to the Himalayas in northern India and was cultivated and naturalized over the whole Mediterranean region including Armenia since ancient times.

The pomegranate was the personal emblem of the Holy Roman Emperor, Maximilian I. It appears at the bottom of the arms used in the national flag.
