I was liberal in my youth and am even moreso now. I've remained idealistic and optimistic. As I've met more and more people from all walks of life, I've realized the need to be more liberal.
Which direction have you moved, from where, and why?

In my opinion a liberal has to be more optimistic because you are relying on others to do the right thing with all the freedoms you bestow upon them. Conservatives in my opinion believe that human nature dictates that we don't trust people with that kind of responsibility.

Was raised "middle of the road", but as my level of education increased I've become more liberal. No amount of conservatism will stop progress. Old traditions and the status-quo always will eventually fall by the wayside as greater knowledge becomes evident.

I am conservative. I do not support abortion and I do support the death penalty. I also own lots of guns. I also don't think a $9 trillion debt is good for America. Nor is the $2 trillion cost of the occupation of Iraq good for America. America has 3052 dead now in that Republican supported occupation. These were Americas best and bravest. A full 61 percent of Americans now oppose the Republican led escalation in Iraq. In 1966 a Senator called for a end to the occupation of Vietnam, we had 2600 dead then. We lost 58,169 after that speech. He was called a Liberal. He was also called a communist. None of those words changed the fact he was right.

I have always been a conservative when it comes to fiscal policy and more liberal on social issues. This would technically make me a libertarian. However, it seems that only Democrats or Republicans win elections in this country. Therefore, I have to choose that which is more important to me. For me, that is my wallet. I would rather lose a few social freedoms than lose any money. Thus, I vote for the conservative party.

Always conservative, used to be more authoritarian and trusting of government..now I have no trust whatsoever for politicians. Just growing up and watching cable TV news was bad enough, then the internets just opened up the world like nothing else.

i moved from lilberal to moderate to moderate conservative. Like you, I see a need to step away from the moderates. America's morals are being flushed down the drain. Lawmakers often make decisions that are personally beneficial, regardless of whether they are right or wrong. Corrupt politicians stain both parties and neither party has taken a stand against it. Clear cut issues such as birth control abortion and even partial birth abortion are no longer clear cut, because politicians make them less clear cut-for votes. It seems that America's law system is more and more sympathetic to serial killers, serial rapists and terrorists than it is to unborn children. Are politicians are slowly evolving to political monsters. The American people are becoming less and less informed about issues, because politicians rarely explain themselves, they like rallying and making empty slogans to hide their lack of content. This goes for both parties, and both parties should equally reform. like you, I am optimistic and idealistc, becuae reality is deteriorating. I think we should ban birth control abortions, stop illegal immigration (and also cut the benefits from illegal immigrants that attract them here, like welfare, education and jobs). we should redo our education system to where the states have more control, because every state is different. We should keep the welfare system alive to help certain poor Americans. Our law system should return to its former tough state, instead of becoming more and more soft.

I was more liberal as a youth (but I never got caught up in commie causes). I lean more towards the right now. And so do most of the people I grew up with who used to be dems.

I was raised by old school dems(you know, the ones that kicked *** and took names). I voted dem till Mr. Peanuts went to Washington. I'd say I'm middle of the road, but as I get older I lean more towards conservatism. It's a nice balance, sunshine.
