If it says that one thing "is like" another, then it's a simile.
Ex: That yarn is lightweight like a feather.
Sorry, that's not a very good one.

If it says that one thing "is the same as" another, then it's a metaphor.
Ex: My homework is a big vacuum sucking the life out of me.
