Wellbutrin SR is pregnancy category "B" which means that in lab animals there were no adverse events for the fetus. However, the PI (prescribing information)states that there aren't enough adequate studies done in pregnant women to know for sure. However, I've worked in the healthcare industry and most medications are pregnancy category "C" which means it isn't safe to take while pregnant. Very few meds are "B" which, Wellbutrin SR is, and I can tell you that if the FDA to give it that rating, then it it probably okay. I attached the PI for you to read yourself...it's under "Pregnancy." I hope this helps.

I don't know for sure, but I do know that breastfeeding mothers can be prescribed anti depressents for post partum depression. A friend took Paxil while breastfeeding and her doctor said it was safe. I also work with a woman who took Prozac while pregnant and her son is fine (he is 15 now) . Your best bet would be to talk to your doctor or you could look it up on the Motherisk web site.

I suppose you could google it. But that's one reason doctors will take pregnant women off of their perscrptions during pregnancy. I wouldn't think your baby would be addicted and be having withdrawl though. The best and most definite way to find out is from your doctor.

my wife was taking them when she was pregnant. The doctor said she was better to take them than to stop using them. he said there was little to no risk of anything happening to him. he is now 8 months old and a healthy little boy.
