and there in the top left hand cornor of where the picture is supposed to be...
for example,insted of an avatar on yahoo answers there is a blank square,with a smaller square inside it with a circle,square,and triangle in the middle of it.

That suspiciously sounds like you are using Mozilla or Firefox Internet browser. That image you see is a place holder that Mozilla and Firefox uses when it can find the graphic or object online. There is only one setting I know that cause this.

Working Offline
1) Select File and uncheck Work Offline and then close the browser and bring it up again.

Working offline relies on the browser's cache of a website and hard drive to find images so you can view a webpages w/o being connected to the internet. In this case this is what might be causing your problem.

Might be a setting or a protection that you have Installed... or you dont not have active x which lets you have pictures. do a right click on that circle square thing and see if it says anything, or just put your cursor on it....see if it says some thing about active x... good luck

Right click the "blank square", do you have an option to "view pictures"?

If not, go to www,java.com and download any of the latest updates as it is a Java issue.

Haven't got the same problem as yours but i think u have to do something about it. Above suggestions might be good for u.

yo probably need to install a new Flash Macromedia Player, that was the deal with me, it tells me that for some characters to appear i need to download and install the latest flash player.

when i pressed No, that was wat i got

the site is www.flash.com I Think :S. try google and search for it.
