Does it seem that the media is over focusing on these "chav" shows and characters?

Whed did this start to be such an obsession about "Chavs?"

Why?

The people on those shows give their consent to be broadcast. Their only other oppotunity to be on tv is "COPS". Unless they want to take a paternity test on Maury.

I think people watch these shows to feel better about themselves.
I know I do, and for a laugh at thier stupidity - "My gay brother is having an affair with my father's, sister's goat!"
I
have worked all my life and have lived in 3 countries and travelled all over the world. Never been on the dole.

I had never heard of "Chavs" before i came to the UK (from Australia) I had to ask what they were! We have people like this in Oz but no one is judged on what they wear or sound like there.

I used to like wearing hoop earrings and my hair tied back, but I don't do it now because of my fear of being judged. You can't go into my local shop with a "hoodie" on, bet they'd say nothing to a woman wearing a burkha!!

This country is too judgemental and has their PCness up **** creek.

Reality tv shows are popular these days, i'm not sure if your saying these are chav shows, does that make me a chav? i work, never claimed any benefits in my life (not even maternity leave) but yet i watch these shows.
This sort of tv is good viewing and making a fortune out of the viewers watching, from phone/text votes, but yet everyone seems to enjoy watching them. If nobody tuned in, they wouldn't keep doing different series would they? If you don't like them, turn over and watch something else...but the reality is, we can't....it makes fascinating viewing

Garry, you're top. Jade isn't the wonderful at expressing herself, exceptionally while indignant. She did behave badly interior the BB residing house in some techniques, yet she has a stable coronary heart and is a great mum. those people who mocked her and accused her of bobbing up the cancer up with the intention to sell her new e book could carry their heads in shame. She isn't appropriate and, such as you're saying, the media have latched directly to that and function insulted her way, way greater advantageous than she has ever insulted every physique. in basic terms using fact they weren't racist insults does not make it any greater advantageous or greater ideal! i wish Jade - and all cancer sufferers - can triumph over this poor ailment.

Jade Goody, and chavs in general, have nothing to do with the working class.

Ok, i'm sure i'm totally out of touch with modern pop culture and parlance, but who the hell is Jade Goody? What the hell is chav? I keep seeing her name and that term and have NO idea what it means. Maybe I should try reading the entertainment section of the paper or something. I usually only read the book reviews and music releases.

Absolutely yes. It's called classism and in my view is as bad as racism. It's a certain class of people looking down and generally having a laugh on others, usually from a deprived background. With regards to Jade Goody, she has come from a deprived background her behaivour is a result of how she was brought up -she says things as they are and what she said to Shilpa was right but it doens't make pleasant viewing. Shilpa was a bully but in a different way, controlling and a control freak - but, because she is from a different class she is considered to be blame free!

I think it's all an act on these people's parts, especially on Springer and similar shows. Think about it, if you act like a trashy, inbred lunatic, you can get on TV with little or no acting ability!!
