I assume you mean wild bird seed mixes. Different mixes are dersigned for different birds. In addition to the sunflower seeds in a general mix you might find crushed peanuts, millet, oats, cracked corn and thistle seed. Thistle seeds are the base of some mixes gears toward chickadees and finches. There aren't preservatives added, so it's important to keep seed dry to prevent mold and replaced if not eaten promptly

Sunflower seeds usually black and striped varieties
Cracked corn- corn kernals that have been broken into several smaller pieces easier for the birds to eat.
Milo-(sorghum) dark red BB size pellets
Millet-light yellow round smaller than Milo
wheat kernals
there is usually some veggie oil added that will make the seed shiny and more palatable for the birds.

Milo, Millet, Wheat and Sunflower are all harvested as any seed would be. The corn is too but is further processed by shattering it into smaller pieces. This is a standard mix for birds such a cardinals
Finches like the small black thistle seed. This seed is imported from Nigeria and it has been heated to kill its germination.

I just notice that a lot of birds like the sunflower seeds the best. However, eventually everthing seems to get eaten by something or other. Read the contents on the package.
