I've noticed, especially with this Big Brother row how people have instead of condemning the racism towards Shilpa Shetty, and yes it was racist, have made excuses like...

"they are only saying it's racist because she is Indian, it's her personality"

or

"political correctness gone mad"

what people have failed to realise is the racist comments made on the programme by the contestants, so it was racist

I noticed this in a dicussion about it recently, and I was in disbelief

PS: I am white

i also agree with you, people simply have to realize that nowdays, if they say it, they will be labeled racist, as that is what it is,,,,, no one wants to hear it coming out of anyones mouth anymore,,,,, that along with other name calling,,,,, it always amazes me how we adapt so quickly, atleast most of us, to new technology,,,, yet we are so slow to adjust to society changes, and society has changed, you are right in that today there is no excuse accepted for such language

I was shocked by some of the comments made by the girls. However, i do not think they are racists deep down. They did not like Shilpa "because she was indian". They disliked her because she's a strong, confident individual and she comes from a different social class . There isn't much for them to do in the house but to pick on someone and ***** so they picked on her background to feed their small talks and argument. The whole point of BB is to put together people from different backgrounds/mentalities to try and stir things up. If everyone got on then no one would watch the programm.
I think it was mainly bullying (and this has always happened in previous BB's) but that definitely went too far and turned into, i agree comments of a racist nature towards indians as a population which were out of order.
Anyway, good ridance of Goody, she's an ignorant and she doesn't deserve her 'fame'. I hope the papers stop going after her, it's about time!

The bigger issue is surely the fact that she was bullied?! Jade and the other girls were obviously threatened by Shilpa and reacted in the way a lot of people do (however uncomfortable that is too admit) by attacking the most obvious thing they could- her accent, her name and her race. Had she been fat, or ugly then no doubt these things would have been used to attack her aswell.
For example, if Shipla had a physical disability, and that had been used as ammunition by the girls (not just Jade remember) to bully her, then sure, it would have made the headlines... but I doubt in the same proportions that the race thing has.
I don think people are making excuses, or denying that the form of bullying that went on was racist... they are just in disbelief at the response it has created. All forms of bullying should be brought to light and no excuses should be made for them... someone earlier said it was like being back at school.... I agree with that. it was wrong what happened but it seemed more silly girls trying to belittle someone who they were threatened by and i doubt it was because of her race that they felt like that.

And my 2nd edit here.... ;)
What relevance, exactly, do you think the fact you are white has anything to do with your question???!!!

By stating that you are white you imply that the racism was also colour predjudiced. Predjudice raises it's ugly head all over the place...sex...age..size..money. Everyone does it to a certain extent, we have many predjudices taught to us in life and it's up to us as we grow up and realise how pointless they are to let them go and stop spreading it. Jade and the other girls are ignorant...not particularly racist but as thick as shite. I think anyone unknown to the 3 ugly sisters would've received the same, they are falsely led to believe by the media in this country that they are celebrities.....Danielle's only claim to fame is shagging Sheringham. Shilpa had more of a culture shock than the others...she is a lady and a very beautiful one at that, of course she's not used to that kind of behaviour, who would want to be, it's totally disgusting but it seems to be the way many young British girls are going and perhaps when they look at Jade and see themselves it might've done some good after all.

I do not feel that our generational prejudice is the same as sexism or racism of our parents / grandparents. People are people, some get on and some don't.. If we dont like someone we find a label to criticise them, fatty, skinny, goofy, ginger, paki, dumb blonde, cracker etc.
In some cases it is stupidity like in jades case as she cannot comprehend sensitiveity, but her heart is not racist. Her mouth is just silly. But I dont believe it is racism (excluding kkk and NF and BNP) Most of us do not beleive we are better than anyone else for any reason, and so true racism, sexism cannot apply, this is bitchness and bullying and this is the true fundemental problem. We have got confused about the labels we are using without considering the meaning of what we are saying.

Ok fair enough,I totally agree that racist comments were made and excuses too.Just wondering what your take on Jermaine Jackson calling both Jade Goody and her mother "white trash" was? Not heard him being taken to task over his comments, am I to assume that his derogatory comments weren't racist because he was referring to a low class white women from a poorly educated council estate.People need to understand racism comes in all forms towards people of all colours and social standing. Only then will racism be understood and stamped out.

Racism grows from ignorance and hate. I agree with you on not making excuses. It is what it is. I do not watch this stupid aggravating show so I can't comment on the show itself. Racism is still happening all over this world with all walks of life, and it isn't just a black or white racism in todays society.

So, instead of making excuses and complaining about the situation -- what do you think can be done about it? We all recognize that it's a problem. Love each and every one of God's children -- even for their differences and individuality.

fairly some people hate to publically admit (or perhaps admit to themselves) while yet another member of their race commits a racist act--fairly against somebody black. curiously too a lot of people have hassle dealing with the certainty of certainty. they convey delusions that they then attempt to "stay" via. yet they are only that...DELUSIONS. Racists are problematical in that they can't or somewhat, won't face certainty. So while somebody like that Georgia white guy, who viciously beat that black female, commits such against the regulation, unavoidably, the deniers retreat to their delusions, believing he did "no incorrect" and as a replace blame the sufferer. that's why it is so significant for something individuals to communicate out while those issues take place. There are only toooooo a lot of people obtainable who hate black people no count what they do, no count if or no longer it extremely is outstanding or incorrect. it extremely is the comparable component that the nazis did to eu Jews. What replaced into their criticism against Jews? they actually had no criticism. The Jews minded their very own agency, took care of their Jewish communities and left people by myself. And yet over 6 million of them have been murdered. while people desire to hate, they do no longer truthfully want a reason (excuse). They hate by way of fact they do no longer seem to be Godly, they do no longer love God the two and are not drawn to obeying HIS instructions to love your neighbor. i observed that the media isn't reporting on that Georgia tale, regarding the black female being viciously crushed via that white racist, as much as a minimum of you will assume. i think of it extremely is being performed down too lots via the information media. WHY?

Actually they were bitching and there's a big difference. I haven't seen this kind of thing since I left school when girls were always spiteful to the one's they felt most threatened by. They didn't like her and they wanted her out it's as simple as that.
What about the white trash quip?
