There is infact no danger associated with using this method for shutting down your machine because all you are doing by pressing that button is sending a command to windows to shutdown the pc, the same command you are telling it to do by using the graphic interface. All programs and system tasks will be ended normally.

Hope this answers your question,
1. If you click START then click turn off computer, this is known as a controlled shutdown of the computer so all files can be stacked away and stored so that when you re-start your computer the system knows where to look for your files for the software can open and function properly,
2. However if you press the ON switch to turn the computer OFF this is known as a forced shutdown and the system will shut the computer down as fast as it can and in the process some files that are needed for software to run may be lost by using this method. so when you re-start your computer you just might at times receive the message Internet Explorer has encounted a problem and needs to close. so the choice is your on how to shutdown a computer safely the best option is Number 1, good luck.

That depends on how the power management is set up. On my PC a quick press on the button starts hibernation, press and Hold forces a power-down that may result in lost data in unsaved apps.

doing this will dammage your computer because all of the programs that are running on your computer needs so be shut down in the corest order, so that they can start back up in the corect order.
you can go into power options and make it that the computer will go to hybenate when the power button is pressed this will not harm your computer.

It isn't a proper switch off button (like on your TV). This means it doesn't cut off power and gives the PC time to shut down. If any programs are running which need you to confirm closing, it will ask.

There is no problem in what u r doing because its simply a fast facility that the PCs are using since the power supplies were evolved to ATX.

You run the risk of corrupting data. I recommend you power off the normal way by start/turn off computer.

It's not ideal, but it's better than just pulling the plug out. Doing it enough times might corrupt some important files.

No it doesn't hurt anything, but you are supposed to shut it down by going to start, turn off computer, etc.
