I had cramping for 24 hours a week ago, and it started up again about 30 hours ago and hasn't stopped. The hopital said I am contracting, but that I do not have dehydration, or any type of infection. They kept me for 6 hours, with no change in effacement, and no dilation, and then released me. But I am still cramping, which means I am still contracting. Just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them so early, and if their doctor did anything different?

i went in per term 9 times first at 26 weeks and was 50% efface they didn't do anything really but bed rest but as time went on it didn't stop they put me on nifedipine i think like 60 mg once a day then 10mg if i started contracting which the meds is for high blood pressure but can do lots of other things to but at 34weeks 4 day it got real bad and they had to do iv of mag sulfate brethin pills which makes you feel like your dying but it worked so it was worth feeling bad if you keep contracting go back to hospital cause i was 2 centimeter from 29 wks on so go back and get checked even if you go 100 times before you have the baby whatever it takes to keep him/her safe after everything i had to have a section but the meds kept her in me longer so good luck with everything and i hope the contracts stop i contract everyday for the last almost 10 wks so i kinda got used to it but hope you don't have a bad time just try laying on your side and rest

Braxton-hicks contractions are common in pregnancy, and can happen pretty early for some women. But to be 50% effaced at 29 weeks -- I honestly don't know how safe that is, it sounds like you are right to be concerned about possible pre-term labor.

Follow up with your doctor ASAP for re-assurance and directions. If she doesn't see a need to be concerned, ask her for lots of details so you can understand exactly what is happening with your body. I know some women efface and/or dilate pretty early and hold their own until birth but I don't know how early or how much. I do know that I always had uncomfortable braxton-hicks contractions even with my full-term babies, so that by itself is normal.

I went into preterm labor at 24 and half weeks with my twins and also had issues with my son. Call your doctor, if you are having troubles they can prescirbe breathine in for you, it will help or should help slow down the cramping and contractions, even if its just braxton hicks (no dialiting etc) I was on it for 7 weeks until I had my twins. If you are hurting that bad you wont be able to sleep and lack of sleep is bad for you. I would also see if they want to start non-stress tests (monitoring of baby) just to make sure you aren't actually going to go somewhere with these contractions
