I have a Dell computer (Precision 220). Whenever I try to log into my user account, I get this message: "You have to install SHDOCVW.dll". How can I install this, and how can I get my desktop back to its original state (with the taskbar and icons in view)? I somehow got to try system restore, but that didn't work.

Help appreciated, thanks.

Try rebooting in safe mode and attempt another restore.

Just in case ur not sure how to do this > During startup when you first see white letters Hold down F8 until you get to boot options. scroll down to Safe Mode and hit Enter.. Ur desktop will look different but dont worry.

You can do it two ways;
1:Start ur computer and keeep pressing F8 ket until screen asking for which mode you want to login to. copy the desired SHDOCVW.dll file with command DriveName:>> Copy E:\ SHDOCVW.dll C:\Windows\system\
Where E: is the destination in your CD Drive for the file. After type regsvr32 c:\windows\system\SHDOCVW.dll and press enter.
By doing this technically u register the missing Dll but there could be a possibility that window now ask for another dll and window found missing, as window do line by line execution. you probbly got victim of some virus.

2: the best is to reinstall your window. as It will not destroy your data saved on ur computer. It ll be a duplicate copy of window on ur PC once u backup ur system U can format anf re install a fresh window. It will talke the most 30 minute time every time.

I searched symantec.com an I think you have a piece of adware on your PC. If you can download/buy and install an Adware remover (for free you could try Adaware SE) and that should clear it. If you can't, I suggest going to a local PC firm about it.

something won't have put in properly or maybe you have a plague that embedded itself onto your usb force, I even have run into that for the period of the previous, i eventually saved the documents to a ubuntu gadget and reformatted the force then placed the documents back on it

If your computer is not working properly while you are working on it, it could be a problem with device drivers, hardware or software.
