To write an improper fraction as a mixed number, you have to divide the numerator by the denominator. Let's say you have the fraction 5/2. You would have to divide 5 by 2, and you get 2 1/2, and that's the mixed number. Hope I helped!

In general follow these steps
1.Divide the numerator by the denominator.
2.The quotient (without remainder) becomes the whole part and 3.the remainder becomes the numerator of the fractional part.
4.The new denominator is the same as that of the original improper fraction.
Example
consider the improper fraction as 5/3
Dividing 5 by 3 gives you a quotient of 1 and a remainder of 2
so mixed number would be 1 2/3.
You can also check it Add 1+2/3 you will get 5/3
Actually 1 2/3 implies 1+2/3.

Divide the top number by the bottom number. Anything left over is a fraction with the same bottom number as before.
Example: 13/2 = 6 with 1/2 left over = 6 1/2

hey!
ok say the improper fraction was 9/4

you take your bottom number and multiply it to your whole number, then you add that to your top number. then that answer goes to the top and your bottom number will be the same as when it started.
hope that helps
