well we just got married... he is off to japan for now. i decided not to go in the middle of the school year.
i am finiacially stable on my own without a hubby. however, he did not offer any answers as to any spousal support while away.
he di however, seem eager to add me and my kids onto his DEERs ...what ever that is. i just thought he would have offered to send some funds while he is away. being i am his wife and now we share a home.

Well truthfully, you should have a joint checking account, so you can help manage some of his bills while he is away. DEERs is the medical....you and your children will have full access to medical now on post for free. If you live off post, you will need to call TriCare, which is the medical insurance, and ask them about getting Tri Care standard, you will pay co pays, but you will be able to go to an off post doctor. As far as the financials...since getting married, he is now recieving more monthly income, which include BAH if you live off post, and also he is recieving seperate rations (food allowance) and once he has been gone over 30 days he will start recieving seperation pay. You should ask about a joint checking account. Also you may need power of attorney while he away if anything you take care of is in his name. Power of Attorney is a good thing to have while they are away. You can get them drawn up for free thru JAG. Good luck to you....but it sounds like you need to have a sit down with hubby and work out all the details for what is to be taken care of while he away and who is to pay what bills ect. Good luck!!

DEERS has to do with medical benefits, and the reason he is thrilled aobut it is now he doesn't have to worry about you not being covered medically if one of y'all gets hurt. As for the spousal support, he probably hasn't started receiving it yet, and you should ask him how it's going. What branch of service is he in? You should check out that branch's website and you should be able to find any information that you need.

And depending on his pay grade/rank, he might not be able to afford to send you any money right now, and because YOU are financially stable with out him, he probably thought that it would be ok for now until he can afford it.

go to the Fleet and Family Support Center on your base. they will have all the info you will ever want to know! go there when you need to find a civilian job on base, for daycare options, for medical and dental insurance information, etc.

on myspace, in the Groups section, do a search ofr a group of military wives in your area. i joined 6 different groups for navy wives on my base, and we've become like a family. they are my support system when my husband is deployed. look into it. when you search, enter the info like "(name of branch) wives in (base name)"

I'm not a wife, but a proud marine corps girlfriend. What do you mean by "scoop". Do you mean what's gonna go down with the troops thanks to President Bush, or what's gonna happen while he's away..?

Me! Keep your head up at all times! Deployments are hard but us military wives are strong enough to handle them! Good luck!
