Umm.... I can't really tell what you are petitioning... I have never heard of race horses being put down at the age of 5 unless they were injured. Most race horses are sold once they can no longer race due to age or whatever. My friends have a couple horses off the track. None of them show any signs of abuse. Do some research on horse racing and horse health in general from NON BIASED sources. I bet you'll find that the sport is not as cruel as you think. There is an unfortunate sigmata on animal rights activists because some if not many are uninformed in the area that they are protesting against. Be different, get educated on the subject before you write your petition. You'll get a great deal more signatures if your information is correct.

From racing or do you mean steeplechase? Steeple chase racing is racing horses but they must jump over fences also. MANY horses die in flat racing. (regular racing without jumps) I worked at many racetracks throughout the USA and see how many they put down. Just at one track alone, I've seen them put down 4-8 horses a week because they break legs. Now the steeplechase racing isn't popular here. They hold shorter meets so there isn't as many races as there is in flat racing. The Grand National is a brutal race, only a few make it through the race to finish. They might have a few break down on the course but they never tell you about the ones that get back to the barn and are too crippled to live. They will be destroyed too. Again, this big race is only one time a year and regular flat racing goes on 4-5 days a week with a 6 month race period. Hope this helps

I don't quite get what you mean...a 5 yr old horse is still considered in the prime of their life- just not for racing.

Age should not matter. Pain and quality of living is what should matter.
We put down a 4 yr old TB. We bought him and didn't do a vet check-found out the owners jumped the crap out of him and shattered his legs. We were riding him and wonder why he was doing little bucks (because his feet hurt) felt horrible about riding him those 2-3 times. Anyways, the vet looked at the x-rays and said that there was not a complete bone left below the cannon bone, and even that bone was splintered a couple times. Said with the pain levels, probably could not even be a happy pasture pet without a daily dose of strong bute, so we euthanized him.

Another horse we put down at 4 yrs- our APHA because she had west nile (only vaccinated horse in the US during the outbreak to get it severely).

Can you put the petition on here? One of my horses is over 23 years old. -They should definitely not die at 5! If I saw the actual petition I would sign! It should not be hard to get names for somthing as good as that. Go knock on doors. School? Church?

if the horse has not been hurt or in any pain they should find the horse a nice owner. horses can live to be about 18 years old or more

What are you trying to petition? I can't understand what you have written about it. Also, I would like to see the petition. . . . from what I can understand it sounds like a good cause but from what I am confused about, sorry but no. Good Luck. . . .I suppose.
