I am currently using a BT Voyager 1060 and the signal strength is very low. Is there a better card available or something else I could use ?

You could try a hi gain wifi antenna for starts, if you dont mind forkin out some cash, you can purchase a wifi bi-linear amplifier for a couple hundred bucks!

If you mean signal strength, then sometimes moving the router or the client even short distances can have a dramatic effect on the signal, especially if the signal has to travel through several walls/floors. Many routers also have an antenna which can be placed in different positions, and experimenting with this may help.

I don't have any experience with PCI wireless adapters but my own personal experiences with Wi-Fi tell me that trying to boost reception on the computer end is like trying to hold the tide back with a broom. New hardware might work, but then again it might not, and the only way to be sure is to try it. However, you said you didn't have an Ethernet jack in the living room and so the solution linked in the sources immediately sprang to mind - a homeplug. I use this same thing to get a connection down in the basement rather than relying on a wireless signal that was getting stopped by heavy concrete walls. These devices come in pairs. One plugs in near the router and connects with an Ethernet cable. The other plugs in where you need an Ethernet jack. It's not ideal, especially if you want to lounge around on a couch, but it should get the job done alright.

It pretty much depends on the wifi type modem/router you have, if it is IEEE 802.11 B/G span then you'll have the maximum signal strength which covers a wide area, also you must take into account your firewall and antivirus installed and any running services which can hamper your performance.

Good luck!
