First: eliminate the parenthesis > use distribution by multiplying the outer term with the terms in the parenthesis....

4(x) + 4(2) - 3x = x - 6
4x + 8 - 3x = x - 6

x + 8 = x - 6

Sec: subtract "8" from both sides (when you move a variable/term to the opposite side, use the opposite sign)...

x + 8 - 8 = x - 6 - 8
x = x - 14

Third: subtract "x" from both sides...

x - x = x - x - 14
0 = - 14

"0" doesn't equal "-14" because they are different numbers so, there is no solution.

4 * x and 4 * 2 = 4x + 8

that leave 4x + 8 - 3x = x - 6

4x - 3x + 8 = x - 6

combine like term s 4x - 3x = x

x + 8 = x - 6
-x + 6 = -x + 6

14 = 0 no real solution
