THAT IS THE PROBLEM... LIFE IN PRISON. though it is still important they get food and sleep in prison.

life in the US prisons are so comfortable, you have repeat offenders day-by-day. some take advantage of the free shelter. heck, even if you murdered an entire office of people, you can still bail yourself out.

prison reform should be done. make prisons a living hell (though basic rights of food and sleep are important). im serious. WHY? so that people FEAR prisons. so that crime rates drop. hence, lesser criminals... another thing is to revamp the system of punishment for crimes. death penalty or life imprisonment without parol (entire life) for murderers, that kill not because of defence. works for many countries... bailing not allowed for murderers...

REALLY differ between life OUTSIDE PRISON and life IN PRISON...

its harsh, but it will definitely decrease crime rates and the repeat offenders :)

ps. im not saying the US system is wrong. in its current state, it definitely is correct. just that, you might wanna consider revising some areas for the better of every citizen :)

Something does need to be done. More and more prisons are being built, the crime rate is still high. In some ways, prisons are good for the economy because most are in rural areas and the job of prison guards (corrections officers) go to the locals who can now afford to spend more money. Some prison employees were on welfare and are now off it. But, to answer your question, the people in prison really don't eat top of the line food, and why should they? The healthcare isn't always that great, but it is better than a lot of folks on the outside get. How many people go back to prison because they can't make it on the outside, or, because prison has become their way of life? There are different levels of prisons, depending on security risks, with a level 5 being the highest level of security. Some of these people don't get out of their cells much at all, but, they still write letters, especially to overseas people (penfriends) asking for money. They should never be allowed to do that. Many have more money on their accounts than we do in the bank! With this money, they can go to canteen, buy food, cigarettes, order clothing, get $100-200 tennis shoes, tv's, stereos, word processors, you name it. The profit goes into paying for cable tv for the prisoners. I would cut a lot of that out. Prison should be for punishment if the person will never get out, or has a long sentence, (life without possibility of parole, or a regular life sentence, 50 years, something like that). If a person does have a chance to get out, I believe we need to rehabilitate them, give them a parole officer that WILL follow every move they make to assure they aren't going to do something wrong again. I don't think it would kill any prisoner (offender to be politically correct) to grow their own food, or to get off their rumps and work hard for what they get. If they have the time to do a crime, they weren't kept busy enough doing the right things on the outside. Don't give them that chance in prison. Make them work for their rent, their food, their electric, medical care and everything else, just like we do on the outside.

The prison system does need to be reformmed. You have hit on an important subject. It is fact that the prisons we have today are not solving anything. We are building more and more prisons and the crime rate keeps esclating. We need to take these broken citizens and find a real way to reform them. Prisons reflect the society in which they exist. Society has no answers to deviant behavior, so they "throw away" those who do not conform to society and its rules. It is done at the expense of the law abiding citizens. It costs us in many ways. Finances being only one major area of expense to our society. Most prioners have mental health issues. Many came from abusive homes, many have behvioral problems, amny do not know how to comply with society...all they know is hate, rebellion and crime. WE need to find a resloution to make our society better. A society is only as strong as its weakest members.

American prisons today, are very much like the Concentration camps of Nazi Germany.

There are more prisons in America than schools, and Arnold Swastika wants to build even more prisons in California.

If he stays in as Governator, soon California will be one big prison.

It's time to raise the prisons to ground level.
