YES! I think promoting drinking on T.V. and billboards,
should be banned. Tobacco ads have been removed,so why not
Alcohol?
Alcohol DOES destroy families, relationships and sometimes..
the person who does it. And,the innocent people who get killed
because someone was stupid enough to get behind the wheel
and drive drunk.
However, banning it,completely.....will Never happen.
In the Bible,Noah was gotten drunk,by his daughters.
And the first caveman, discovered that if he let grape juice
sit long enough,he would have a "strong drink".
So, sadly,I don't believe it will ever be banned.
On the other hand, there are people who stop after 1 drink...
it's called,"sensible drinking".
Tobacco products do kill people,..causing Cancer.
But.....have you ever heard of anyone killing another person
because they were smoking a cigarette ? ( I don't smoke.)

You know what is really crazy? Weed is illegal. When was the last time you saw somebody so high on weed that they attacked people? When was the last time you heard that somebody gunned down a cashier at a convenience store to get the money to buy weed?
Alcohol kills thousands and thousands of people every day.
Yet it is still legal. My friend is going to jail for the next three years for having two ounces of pot at his house. He hurt nobody. Didn't drive with it, or under the influence of it. nothing. just had it in his possession, at his house.
Alcohol and anything else is fine in moderation. But people today do not understand the idea of moderation. Everything has to be done to an extreme. Why, I do not know.
But I do know that weed should be legal for a hundred of the same exact reasons that alcohol should not be.

Jenny, The U.S. tried this concept out from 1920 to 1933, after the passage of the Volstead Act which prohibited the manufacture, sale or transportation of intoxicating liquors. It was a complete failure and gave a tremendous boost to organinzed crime in this country. Because it was illegal, the Mafia was able to take over the supply of alcohol by running liquor in from Canada, Cuba and home-based illegal stills and controlled the price and quality. They had the same type of turf wars that the illegal drug suppliers have today. The Volstead was finally repealed in 1933 because it created many more problems than it solved. It's one of the most obvious examples of why we cannot legislate morality. If we want a moral nation, we need to build it from within by witholding our money and support from those activities we disapprove.

The noble experiment of banning drinking has been tried, without success, in this country. It was known as "Prohibition," and did not fare very well.
Someone once wrote that morality cannot be legislated, or something along those lines, and I tend to agree.

You should read your history book. Alcohol was banned in the country, nationwide, by the 14th Amendment. All it did was lead to alcohol smuggling, development of gangster syndicates, and lots of crime. It was the result of the Temperance Movement.
Beware of good intentions and trying to legislate your morality on others.
