I have horrid acne and I am so sick of being made fun of. My mom has given me several generic (she is too cheap to buy anything that might actually work) products over the past 5 years of this crap acne and NONE of them have worked. Before I look into prescription, I would like to try proactive because I have heard it really works if you use it right. But, my mom, being the cheapskate that she is, won't get it for me. I currently have a grand total of $5.89. As compared to the price of the product- 39.95 plus shipping and handling. I make a crap allowance of 4 dollars a week. At this rate, I might have enough by.... summer. What should I do to speed this up? I am not allowed to get a job and don't really know what to do. I am very tempted to get my parents visa # and write it in but I would get caught easy. What do you reccomend I do?

1) Don't take your parents' credit card. They will never, ever forget it, and your life will be worse than it is now.
2) Before you buy Proactiv, try this: clean your face twice a day, then use benzoyl peroxide (which is in Proactiv cleanser) in the a.m. and salycylic acid at night. They're both in over-the-counter stuff. It's the combination that's effective.
3) Ask your mom to take you to the doctor for a physical. Tell the doctor you're concerned about your acne and see if you can get him/her on your side. Ask what's effective and take his advice. He/she may refer you to a dermatologist, and if your parent's insurance covers it, that might be the best way to go.
4) Don't pick! If you want to see how picking is making things worse, just pick on one side for a week, and hopefully you'll learn.

I know you believe that Proactiv works, but the same ingredients are available over the counter.

Spirits of Camphol Oil or Witch Hazel, available at a pharmacy, is worth a try before trying overly expensive and highly publicized commercial products. Don't expect overnight results.
