let me explain. I will be making a choice. I am extreemly unhappy in my current job and will have a chance to terminate my contract soon. Should I do it even though I am unsure what stability I will have on the other side... or just continue being miserable but fiancially stable?

I am single and have a pet cat. LOL. My contract comes in four year lengths so resigning would not be for a year... but four.

Christoph.....H, I am not saying money isn't everything... but I'm not saying it is either. And I guess for the record, I should just state that the "company" I work for is the military, so the money isn't really all that substancial, but good enough for me. What I am concerned about is my sanity. Things have happened during my "time" that have shaken my confidence with the job. Plus... the polotics of the job can be quite taxing. And I can't get a dog cause my cat would throw a hissy fit (threw that in just for a giggle... not seriously down about lack of Doggy power) I have a choice to make and while mind is mostly made up I am just interested to see what other people think.

Thank you for your input... at least you weren't insulting and you were blunt. So far, all the answers ahve been provacative and helpful.
Thanks

Happiness, of course!! There are many things that will affect your happiness-factor. Financial stability will have a major impact on your happiness factor. So does daily mental and physical health.

You will be so much more happy if you find a new employer. However, keep in mind that sometimes that grass is only greener where you water it!

Look now, and try to line up your next job, while still employed. It will put you in a better position to make the best choice, and not just a choice made out of urgency.

You should start exploring your job prospects now if you can. That way you will have some idea of what is available, and whether it is advisable to quit soon. If your field is depressed at the moment, and it would be hard to find another position, it might be worth hanging on for another year. That would also give you more time to find a spot you would like better. You need to go sooner or later, though, because we spend more hours at work than anywhere else. Good Luck!!

You are obviously an intelligent person and based on that I believe you have choices and should not let your job rule your life.
If you do not have a financial safety net to protect you while you look for the right thing, a few month savings or equity in your home. Could you negotiate for a shorter term contract in order to create that safety net then make the change?

Good Luck

I don't know too many people that are happy with their current jobs/relationships, etc.

If your looking for happiness, you are not going to find it. You have to make lemonade out of lemons.

You should always be looking out for #1. (me)
If you want happiness, get a dog.
Like Patton Said. I don't care if they hate me, as long as they respect me.
Your not at work to be liked, you are there to make the company money. That is why they call it work, not play.

Life is all about taking chances. Sometimes you win, Sometimes you lose. Don't expect to win everytime.

So, always be looking for better opportunities inside and outside your company.

You don't think money is everything? Try going without it for a while, then get back with me.

One earns to be happy, if you are not happy earning at this place, its no sense continuing the job, you may look for any other job. Money is not everything. In my opinion, Happiness is the most important thing in life. Who would not love to be happy? You are definitely going to get the money that is destined to you, by any means, then why just carry on at a miserable place. I would vote for happiness. Good luck.
