Caller ID can be blocked, but the actual number is still known to the phone company.
After you receive an obscene call, immediately dial *57 and the call will be traced and recorded with your phone company. You will not receive the information yourself.
If you decided to take further action, the police will be able to determine who made the call. If you suspect the calls are coming from a friend playing a really dumb joke, you might mention to the caller the *57 function before you hang up; it should scare him/her enough not to keep up the antics.
You must dial *57 before you receive another call, or else the function will trace the wrong caller.

The person who made the call does not want their number shown to the receiver. Their phone number is an unlisted number which they pay extra for. This feature is used by many professionial people returning calls made to their office:ie doctorswho would not want you to have their personal cell phone number. However pranksters can to the same thing. You can not retreive the number without legal action involving the police.

Its because they dial a special code, *67 , before the phone number to get the cell phone to read "number unknown", which prevents their number from being displayed. If you have consistent problems, just call the police and tell them about it.

It is most likely someone calling you from a blocked number. Some cell phones have the option to do that before you call someone. It could be a payphone as well.

These numbers are unlisted (private) or out of the area (unknown). If this becomes a problem your phone company can trace the number for you.

Because you can block your number from being sent. You can try *69 to dial back, but usually that won't work on blocked numbers.

because they don't want you to know who they are and they clicked *67 before calling you....if you don't want these private calls anymore then block private calls
