Yes, unless you bring him to a private or charter school he does have to go to the school in his district - they have to verify your address. Another option would be to get him tested and if he is considered gifted or talented he may be able to get into another school that offers those courses if his current school does not.

Not true... They say that because they want money. There are pieces of paper called interdistrict tranfers. If child maintaines good grades, and stays out of trouble there is no reason for the tranfer to be denied. I myself went through this process because I was in a horrible school system and transfered with no problem. You need to fight the school, the district or whoever, because your childs well being is the most important thing. If they deny it, I'd pull him out of school and do independent study until you were able to make other educational arrangements.

go to the school board district again. explain everything that makes the school "bad" and tell them you are extremely unhappy see what they say. Here in CA we just have to get what is called inter city district transfers and fill them out and can move our children within our district or intra city district transfers and move the child outside the district. we have to meed certain qualif like job or daycare is closer to the other etc but if we are unhappy they do look at that and if they believe the parent and child will be happer, less stressed, or for continuity reasons they will allow it

some of my old friends at school lived in another district, which had a bad schools and wanted to go to my district with better schools, so they would know somebody in my district and use their address to get in. If you do do that don't tell people about it! or if you don't like that you can move.
