YEA!!! It hurts and can sometimes draw blood. It
kinda feels like a "pinch" from pliers. As for rabies, you probally don't have to worry.
Don't let the biting stop you from trying a hamster. Hamsters are like dogs....some are friendly and some are not. Pick a friendly one and you shouldn't have any problems.

If you buy a hamster from a reputable pet store, it won't have rabies. Rabies is something you worry about with wild animals. It doesn't "hurt like hell", it's just a little bite. Give the hamster time to get used to your hands, and it won't bite. There's a chance of a bite with owning any animal.

Yes, they will bite when startled. It does hurt - especially if you jerk your hand away - and may draw blood.....but you'll survive. Don't worry about rabies. Just be certain that the little guy is aware of you BEFORE reaching down to pick it up. Most bites are because the hamster is picked up while sleeping and is startled. If he knows that you handle him gently and is aware that you are picking him up, most will not bite. When he's awake, just scoop him up carefully in your hand - holding him just firm enough so he can't wriggle away and drop. Practice a few times just lifting him a few inches from his cage floor until you get to know one another. If he's used to being handled gently, you usually won't need to worry about being bitten. Just don't swoop down on him like a predator and grab him by his neck scuff - he'll bite to protect himself. Having said that, they can become very affectionate pets - just handle gently.

From a scale of a million-10, it can be a 2 or a a million. And putting nutrition on your hand is a great way on your hamster to get to appreciate your hand's fragrance greater powerful. permit him sniff it till now touching him. If he starts to open his mouth or chomping his the teeth jointly and making a noise, merely depart him in his peace. additionally if he makes squeaking noises. My hamster bit me and that i swear it did no longer injury in any respect. i presumed it grow to be going to be like a shark chew. lol. reason there is each and all of the rigidity. yet whilst he has gotten the time to appreciate then you definitely i guarentee he wn't chew. wish I HELPED.
