I don't know if there a formal answer to this, but in my opinion it was her coping through her tragedies and pain through self-exploratory art. Her paintings are like a visual diary, and therapy, as she painted her pains, dreams, concerns and perspectives on herself and the world around her. She shared her life with us through her paintings. They have become a testament of her life, a colorful and imaginative autobiography.
