I have a problem: I grew up with my best friend, and when we were kids, we used to roleplay with fictional characters we made up together. My problem is that although I'm well into my thirties now and my girlfriend and I rarely talk anymore, I am still obsessed with her and our old characters. When I'm at work, I imagine what the characters would do or say in response to a situation. I tried getting a life: keeping busy, volunteering, doing things to keep my mind off of her. It helps take my mind off of her for a while, but I always think of her. What should I do? Any response is appriciated.
Thanks!

Get to know someone that HALFWAY reminds you of your old friend and explain your gripes to her. If she reminds you entirely of her, then you might fall for her and screw things up as well as open up a whole new can of worms. If the person is too different, then she won't help you at all in spite of how she says "That's OK. Just move on." You gotta find someone who's similar but you know you don't know everything about her personality. That way, she can show you something new about how girls grow up.

You don't have to go out with her in an intimate fashion, you just need to be comfortable with her and vice versa. You're old enough so you've definitely matured*.

*I DON'T CARE HOW MANY TIMES YOU'VE SCREWED UP OR DONE SOMETHING STUPID. YOU'RE FINE. YOU LEARNED YOUR LESSON AND YOU'RE OK!!

Oh and by the way. Eat some comfort foods with her like sloppy joes or cinnamon buns or a banana split. Make some jokes, relax while you're with her, and everything'll work out. Goto a street corner cafe or go see a movie while your at it too (scout it out ahead of time so u know where the bathrooms are and if its clean and w/e else if u gotta be sure). Remember, the goal here is to work out your own kinks, not to work out hers. If you get a relationship afterwards, well then happily ever after for you, but to feel happy about yourself, all your need is a confidence boost. No more, no less.

GL!! :-)

P.S. Getting together with some guys around the floor for poker, drinking, the Super Bowl, a Hockey Game, or w/e else will help out a ton too. This way, if u do make a fool out of yourself with your new lady friend, it'll be easier to get along since you got some of your manly habits out of your system.

Well, turn it to your advantage. Start writing stories with those characters and let them have a life that way, and let yourself have your life.
