It just feels like a very small pinch. I've had lots of blood tests done before, and here are some tips: Tell the people at the hospital/doctor's office that you're nervous. Sometimes they'll assign you to a nurse who's known for being particularly calming and/or gentle. Also tell the nurse. If you're nervous about being sick or passing out, they'll let you lie down instead of sitting up. As far as actually drawing the blood, it's not very bad at all. Like I said, it's just a little pinch, and if you stay COMPLETELY still, you won't feel anything until the nurse takes the needle out (another tiny pinch). Don't look at it if you think it's going to make you more nervous. A good nurse will talk to you and distract you if you're nervous, and that'll make it go by really quickly. It's not very bad at all, I promise!

I've had hundreds of blood tests, so I'm used to them.
To answer the question.
You will feel a small, sharp poke as the needle goes in. You won't feel anything else, you can't feel the blood being drawn. You will feel a slightly odd sensation as the needle is pulled out, and you're done.
If you have good veins it can be over in just a few seconds...
I know it seems like a big deal, but its really not that hard. You'll be fine.

If the blood is drawn by a skilled person, you will feel just a slight prick, which can hardly be called painful. You will feel nothing as the blood comes out. The first time is always the worst for a nervous person. But after a few times, you will look back and laugh at your own fears.

I've had hundreds of these throughout my life. (I am 23 years old and have heart problems.) It doesn't bother you after a while.
They do use a needle - but the pain is only temporary. It is usually no worse than a splinter prick. Remember that the pain is only temporary. Once the needle is in, you will not feel anything else. It may sting slightly when they take it out - but it doesn't hurt as bad as penetration.
The best advice that I can give you is don't think about the needle. Don't even look at it. Turn your head and think about something else. The more you think about it, the more it will hurt.

No, it doesn't hurt, if you have a good phlebotomist( nurse, that takes the blood)
I hate needles also, it is only a little pinch. literally one second pinch.
I get my blood taken from the hand only because they can find the vein so much easier.
No you can not feel blood coming out.
The best advice i can give is to just look away, but tell the nurse about your fears, they will usually joke with you, and have it done before you even realize that it was in your arm to start with.
Have no fear.

Blood won't come out if your nurse is skilled, the needle will feel somewhat protruding, but don't worry too much. When I had a blood test I passed out for 4 hours and when I woke up. I was in the hospital when I should've been on the flight to lodon for vacation, and I am like huh this ain't the plane.

i hate it too! don't look at the needle. You won't feel when blood comes out. It's more in your mind. I've learned to not look at the needle, or the nurse. The only thing you'll feel it a little poke, then you feel nothing. The only thing you have to fear is fear itself. Think of people how have no food, people who have to get Kemo. All you're getting is a simple blood test.

Lay your arm on a table with your palm facing up. Pinch yourself very hard (with your fingernails only) on the tender, underside of your elbow. It will hurt less than that.
If you can, bring someone with you who's good at conversation. Talking to someone and distracting yourself while the nurse is putting the needle in helps take a lot of the pain away. It's 1000 times worse if you're doing nothing but thinking about how much it's going to hurt.

I'm the same way when it comes to having my blood drawn. Go to your local pharmacist and ask for some anesthesia cream. Put it on your arm before yo get your blood drawn and you shouldn't be able to feel the prick. As for feeling the blood come out, just don't look, focus on something else and you'll be just fine. Good luck!

Ahhhh...You poor beast. I have this problem too and it stressed me out for years then I got real sick and had to face up to my fears in order to get better.
Yes you will feel a slight scratch but that is all...Do not grit your teeth and stress yourself out. Take a deep breath as the needle goes in and let it out slowly to a count of say 20 and focus on that. It'll all be over and you'll wonder what the fuss was all about.
