Once, it stood for Scholastic Aptitude Test. Then, it was decided that it was not an aptitude test. Then College Board changed it to Scholastic Assessment test. Then they decided it was not an assessment test. Now, it is just the SAT. It does not stand for anything.

Scholastic Aptitude Test (or, in some parts of the world, Standardized Aptitude Test). Or Saturday Afternoon Test if you ask a high schooler. :-)

Everyone here is wrong.
It doesn't stand for anything anymore.
It USED to stand for Scholastic Aptitude Test or Scholastic Assessment Test, but now it stands for nothing.
The tests name IS 'SAT'. 'SAT' itself does not stand for anything because it is the name of the test.
