There are two answers - one is to drink whisky (this works VERY well but can be short lived in its success) and the other is to take the conscious decision to build your self-confidence and take actions to work on this...
Sounds obvious but in fact it's not what people usually do - often people "wish" they were more self confident but do NOTHING to achieve it - if you're scared of speaking in public, face that and speak in public - do it little and often so that you can build confidence.
If your confidence is hampered by consistent negative behaviour - for example you always tell yourself "I can't do this" before standing in front of a group of people, you might want to consider hypnotherapy. In my experience hypnotherapy can't add to your basic human character and can't easily add strengths you don't have, but it is VERY good at helping you stop self-destructive behaviours which constantly harm you.
AND DON'T FORGET - people who appear to have self confidence are still ****ing themselves on the inside - they just appear confident on the outside AND they work like heck to seem as relaxed as they do when giving a presentation.
GOOD LUCK

Do it with song and believing yourself.
List of song can be :
I believe I can fly by R. Kelly
True Colours by Cindy Lauper
This is my Life by Shirley Bassey
Beautiful by Christina Aguilera
Or read books about self motivation. Train yourself to be confident all the time, practice it a lot. Try to act silly in public places, if you don´t care of what people seeing or thinking of you, then you already have self confidence you need.

Self confidence can be buiilt by sticking behind your ideas even if it seems stupid or illogical. The more you do so, the more you'll be convinced you can do it again later. Like if you were to volunteer to give the answer in your math class for the first time. If you do it again you'll start to see that there isint any harm in it and you'll have a positive outlook on that subject.

I had to change my mentality. I used to care to much about what other people though of me. "Those who care don't matter and those who matter don't care."
I live with the mentality that life is about living, exploring, taking chances, and learning from your own experiences.
Also, I read a declaration of self-esteem once in a while.
I give myself the importance that I deserve and others treat me the way I present myself.
Lift your head and know your important.

I do not agree totally with the definition you found for self-confidence.
It is knowing who you are, and liking yourself.
What are some of your positive qualities?
What are things you can do really well?
Gaining knowledge -- knowledge is power.
Standing straight and tall.
Practice makes you able to do it better.

always make an effort to communicate your conscious mind to your subconscious mind. the more you succeed in doing it, the more you gain confidence. that's what you call the self-confidence you are talking about.
The more the conscious and unconscious mind agree, the more you gain confidence.
