at one point it looks like nineteen eighty something they'er playing cindy lauper at the dance then he dances to jamiroquai. i'm confused.

On his school ID it says it is like 2005 or 6 it is only 80's ish because the filmmakers are poking fun at how this town is soo behind the times.

I love that movie. I think it is supposed to be set to the present but is poking fun at the fact that they are in a sleepy town. You know how american's sometimes poke fun at how other countries are stuck in a time warp fashion wise, etc.
