It depends on where you live, the cost of electricity per kwh, the amount of time you run the a/c unit, the number of occupants in the house, size of the house, insulation, etc. In other words without that data, no one can really answer correctly. A 12000 btu unit is 3 tons

Window units do now no longer extremely pull air from outdoors and cool it. They recirculate the air indoors the room merely like an significant unit, albeit now no longer as effectively. they're going to pull in a small quantity of clean air that is appropriate and this could frequently be adjusted. Window units frequently truthfully have a shrink overall performance score (SEER) than important AC. As for reducing a hollow in a wall? determine for it. Mine is fastened indoors the wall, as properly the shown fact that it is not some thing you're able to desire to continuously justify structurally or merely approximately. i don't be attentive to of too many people who've shrink an entire in a wall at present. maximum older properties have been equipped interior the previous important or window AC have been trouble-free. in any diverse case they in all probability could have made a hollow for a unit on a similar time as they have been progression the shape.

There are so many factors to consider that it's hard to give you an amount. Where you live is a big factor. If you live in Arizona, quite a bit. If you live in Maine, not such a big amount. The best unit is one that has an good energy efficiency rating.

really you need to consider a lot of things
insulation of your house, temp you require, load on the unit, size of your area, make of unit

in general they are quite hungry as most homes are not well built and people often dont buy the right sized unit. if its too small a unit for the area and load it will run forever costing a fortune.people tend to buy the cheapest unit not considering the area they need to cool.

Depends on how well insulated your place is, how low you set the target temperature, and the cost of electricity where you are, and finally the average outside temp you are fighting.
