I think this woman was a victim of her own and other people's ignorance and carelessness.

The radio station employees should have consulted with medical authorities before holding a contest that could affect the health of their contestants. And the contestants should have been warned about possible health effects of participating in such a contest.

None of this was done. And now the radio station will probably be found guilty of criminal negligence and end up paying a few million dollars in damages to the family of the deceased.

Honestly, I don't think most people knew that you could die from drinking too much water that way. But the DJs did and joked about it beforehand. The contestants said that they were never warned about this. I think it's shameful of the DJs to not pass this information on and to even hold this contest after they found out about the dangers. And since they didn't warn the contestants, I think they should be charged with homicide due to negligance (I'm not sure what the exact charged is called). And to the people calling this lady greedy, she was in a contest trying to win something for her kids. You've never been in a contest? Must be lonely on that pedestal of yours.

Well...

Water toxicity is not a very well known problem. Most people I talked with had either didn't know it at all, or had incorrect understanding of its danger and how it happens.

I'd say the woman ignored the warning signs of her own body. She did complain of headache. (a sign that her brain was swelling in her scull). Of course, her urge to throw up and go to bathroom was another obvious sign.

BUT, in light of the fact that someone who is qualified (a nurse) called in and warned the DJs and they blatantly ignored the warning put them high on liability. In my mind, the radio DJs should bear 80% or more of the blame.

Yes, the woman who died was silly to continue but like many people she wasn't aware of the danger associated in as common substance as water. She certainly didn't know she could die from it. DJs did know and was warned by an RN.
