White Muscle Disease in hogs as well as other animals is a nutritional muscular dystrophy. It is caused by a deficiency of Vitamin E. The Vitamin E deficiency is in turn caused by a lack of selenium in the diet, which is the underlying cause of the white muscle disease. The treatment or prevention of the disease is to correct the lack of selenium in the diet and/or supplement the Vitamin E in the diet.
