Do you have an hour? lol
Ok ok ok....... I'll so try to condense my answer, but I swear I could on about this one forever. Maybe another time... another place.
I think one of my passions has always been "watching people." Ok, I just sounded like a creepy, voyeuristic weirdo. Ok, I don't watch people in the wacky weirdo way....no. I mean.... watching their behaviors. It's almost like looking at society as one big lab experiment. Different elements of societies conduct themselves in the same ways all over the world. I'm not just talking in terms of leaders and followers and worker bees and cheese moving mice....... There are behavioral characteristics that just pop up no matter where you are. And whether it be from experience with these people at work or play, you learn how to deal with them. And after you have learned to deal with over and over and over again, you almost feel equipped to help someone else with advice IF and WHEN they ask for it. If someone truly wants my honest opinion and advice...... I'm happy to give it. I think that is why I'm in the profession I'm in (though being a psychiatrist always floated around in my head.....lol). I love guiding kids and helping them learn to do for themselves.
Now receiving advice. Ok this is the weird part.
Have you ever gone to someone with a problem..... I mean a seriously legitimate problem that is bugging the heck out of you and you can't solve it so you need advice. And this friend that you've help NUMEROUS times says, "Are you kidding me? You're coming to me? pfffffffft. You're the one with the answers. Seriously, that's no big deal. You can handle that easy!" And they turn and walk away.
It's tough...makes you really feel alone in the world. Becomes an even bigger problem than the original problem. How do you get people to believe you have vulnerable moments where you need them as much as they need you?
so ..... I find I don't ask for advice much at all. You get used to not asking for advice when people aren't always open about giving it.
soooooooo..... I didn't condense as well as I hoped. But I'm sure you can tell that indeed I would much rather give advice than receive it.

Nep-Tunes......
You ask some very thought-provoking questions
I'd rather give advice!!
I think most people are like this because it's easier to give advice to people than to accept advice because we as people want the best for others, but are NOT willing to change to make ourselves better in the meantime. If we did a better Job of receiving advice from others and following thru with it (including myself), it would be a better World.
I guess that this is why I'm on this Website....

I ask for advice only very rarely in important things. So I would have to say: I don't like to be on the receiving end of advice giving.
I don't like to give advice either, I try to get the person to think for himself or herself. But I do it more than ask for advice.

Give advice from my heart. You cant really give really good, effective advice unless you've had an experience or the same situation, and I'd rather help ppl out to prevent them from going through the same thing.
And sometimes I like receiving advice when I really need it too =]

I feel it is better to give than to receive...Ha I really need advice sometimes I do not have all the answers. I really rely on the kindness of strangers outside of the situation to tell me my situation is CRAZY

Both, I love to give good advice, and when needed, I also like to have good advice given to me.
