I thought I had started my period so I began taking birth control pills for the first time. but then I realized I hadn't really started my period and began my real period after I had been taking the pill for a week, so I just threw the old pack out and began a new pack. I'll be on schedule this way but I'll also have taken the pill for 35 days straight. Is this harmful?

Not at all, not on a one-time basis. Sooner or later most women will manipulate their pills or even skip a period for an occasion, and there's no harm in that.

However, if you need or want to do this on a regular basis you need to discuss with your doctor the proper way, and the proper pill. Not all birth control is created equal, and as someone else mentioned some newer ones are designed with this in mind.

It would, of course, be prudent for you to discuss with your doctor as soon as possible in regards to exactly what you should do, and when, if you want to skip periods. I know that's not what you are asking now, but this is one of those "don't try this at home" things that is best done only with professional guidance. For what just happened, it's done so it's done and you don't need to worry about it now. For peace of mind call your doctor's office Monday and double check.

No in fact there is a new set of pills which makes u do this on purpose to miss ur period and only get it 4 times a year. It' sa good pratice to just throw out the in-active pill each day that you would have been taking it to keep u in the habit.

you'll never get pregnant taking that many pills.
yes, see a naturopathic doctor for supplements to counteract the pill as birth control pills can cause depression and other harmful side effects. Regular docs just don't have a clue about drug side effects.

I would have to say that it's harmful to do that. There is a reason that in the BCP cycle, there is a week of 'sugar pills'. I don't know what type of damage it could do (if any). Please go see your doctor! She should be able to help. :-)
