For companionship and so they can have responsibility. Having a pet is like having a child, and some people like that.

I fell that people have pets for many reasons. For a friend to add to the family. Plus some if they are lonly or have lost a loved one(a spouse,child) Others just like animals and love to take care of them. Also some pets help with people that are handycapped. Also cats are known to help lower bloodpressure by petting them. Becasue they are so laid back it helps people relax. Also there are others reasons aswell i would think.

I know I really like having a pet around. It often keeps me from being lonely and I adore animals! Also, there are so many unwanted animals in shelters and it's nice to give an abandoned one a decent life and home. They did not choose to be abndoned and deserve a happy life too!
