if the family were jerks to you, then yes, friends can be more important

you might feel at the time that friends are more important than family but your family will always be there for you no matter what. On the other hand some good friends are like family, but you should still make time for you real family.

Of course. Family is what we are born into and stuck with for better or worse. A friend can have human qualities we require to make a decision where he or she scores on the Important Scale. If in this question by saying "important" you mean a person of more human value with all the qualities that result in high morals, decent human values and high ethics, then let the friend's worth sit beside any given family member and you decide. Ask that of Saddam Hussein's family members and I would suspect that in their heart of hearts they would say "Yes!" If your mother was Judy Garland and your father was Vincente Minnelli then who needs a friend. Take the DNA and run.

You got to have a balance. One is not better over the other but family has a slight edge. They will stick with you no matter what. In the final analysis, family goes that extra mile that in some very tight situations you cannot expect your friend to do. Life will throw at you a lot of curves. Be prepared. Family will be the one that will come to your aid.

Like I said, it should be in balance. Some friends go that extra mile too. It all depends on your friendship.

Whatever you do, do not ditch your family. You need both.

Absolutely. There are certain things which I will tell friends but never share with family (and vice versa). Friends can often be less judgemental than family members too. In the end, it's great that a person has both friends and family.

In some cases, I think yes, they can be. Unfortunately, everyone's family isn't always what they should be, as adults, and out of necessity, friends take their place. However, I do think it is wrong, if family is still loyal, helpful, and basically just being a family, to allow friends to take the place of family.

Yes, they can. Family may be family, but that doesn't make abuse okay. And those who say that friends come and go are apparently not able to create and maintain long term friendships. I'm 54, and I have a number of close friends who I first met when we were children.

NOOOOOOO. Family is and no matter how bad things can be. they will always be there as family. Friends come and go and if you are lucky you might have 2 very close friends that stay that way forever... You also don't have to have the same blood to be a family.

Family will always be related to you, but what about your friends? Depends on the situation though.

Sometimes it happens dat u r sharing ur feelings more wid ur friends than ur family. But this does not mean that family is not imp. U can trust ur family undoubtedly but sometimes u cant trust ur closest of friends. To me I think u should take family and friends as equal. No one is more imp than the other,
