Biotech Boy:
I have used it in a similar way as a rap. Along with many other quotes. Thanks for the "advice."

man this is an excellent question! i guess we are all hypocrites to a certain degree but your question is good because as a christian i know i'm not all i should be and so often i do or say the wrong thing, but i do strive to be better but in the mean time i try to "act"the way i should until it becomes "habit" so YES i do intend to be what i pretend to be,thanks for the thought provoking question!

I think deep down inside, there is such a wish to be who they pretend to be. This is what they want to be.... wish they were. But something...... and oh man those "somethings" can be so intensely engrained in them for psychological reasons that we may never fathom...... but something keeps them from being who they want to be.

So they say things they know others want to hear...... and they pretend as though they believe in certain values.... and yet, when you see them in action, the truth always comes out. The thing that is confusing is that you KNOW they know right from wrong, otherwise they would profess as they do. So what is this that keeps them from seeing themselves??

I had a best friend that I travelled with to India. Back home, she was always this liberal minded person who preached to everyone about tolerance for differences. She discussed racial issues with her classes and taught the kids about why people still today have prejudices. And perhaps she did a little editorializing just to show the kids that prejudice is not always healthy and good.

So while we were in India, needless to say I was shocked at how she treated the locals. Here we were there to study a culture different than our own, and instead she merely showed them what a rude American she could be. She was constantly yelling at people to carry her luggage. She bossed around the hotel clerks and taxi drivers like they were her servants. The people that were begging in the streets she treated like they were invisible. Her main concern was always herself..... like survival of the fittest. I was embarrassed....... and I was disappointed. I had adored my friend and now I just wanted to walk away from her as though I wasn't connected to her. It is so hard to discover another side to people.

I've never been able to see her the same way again. I know too much about her. Now when she speaks up at work, I bite my tongue knowing that more than half of what comes out of her mouth is false. The sad part is..... if she carried it all out in her life, how amazing she would be. But something prevents her from doing so. She can talk the talk........ she'll just never be able to walk the walk.

No, a hypocrite things he is above everyone else, and will quickly, without hestitation, point out in others the very things he cannot see in himself.

Yes they know exactly what they are doing. No question about it. They have just gotten good at tricking everyone else into thinking:

I can't help it - crap

I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings - crap

I didn't know - crap

I wasn't thinking - crap

It is all crap. They know it and I know it.

Well, he pretends to be on both sides of an issue - or more - so yes, he would have to fall in there someplace...
