Does anyone know any famous cases that involved sentencing based just on the testimony of eyewitnesses?

yes but i can't think for the life of me what it was called, a rape case where the man who received the death penalty was actually later found to be incapable of rape, he had an extra x chromosome or something and was permanently impotent, try googling it
