I would hope that the original contract spelled out some of these things. It's usual for a contract between a remodeler and a homeowner to spell out the time frame in which a repair or new construction is to be accomplished. Some small delays are to be expected and are usually accomodated without much problem, but several months sounds like gross negligence to me. If the contract spells out a specific time frame and that time frame isn't met then the contractor is in default and there are penalties for such. You do need to contact a lawyer and find out your rights in the matter. Many good law firms offer a first consultation free, then if you want to pursue the matter it will cost you their regular fee.

They are legally bound by contract to complete the job in task unless there is circumstances beyond there control.
If they said that you was legally bound to have the kitchen and if it also stated on the contract when you signed then yes.
but remember they are also bound legally .
If you are not satisfied with the service and they are not kepping to there say then let them take you to court for what, a job they cannot complete. Think about it.
