This is how I fixed the problem with my sons laptop
Buy a External Enclosure like this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817145656
Then buy a hard drive to put in it.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16822144122
or just buy a External Hard Drive that plugs into your usb port http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Submit=ENE&SubCategory=414&N=2010150414

Get Ccleaner. Go to download.com...
CrapCleaner will clean out your temp files and remove unused registry keys.

Also as defragment. You can also try buring some of your old files to a CD or DVD. Borrow an external DVD burner if you do not have a DVD burner to transfer some of your files. Also, an external hard drive (as an extension) may be of use to you.

Well, you gotta delete that stuff from the recycle bin.

Then run Disk Cleanup, the Disk Defragmenter

Maybe you should search for any pics, vids, & music files you can off-load onto dvd or cd.

don't know with the info you have listed here.but its 6 years old so don't think have much gs to Begin with. have you run the disk clean up? start-all programs-accessories-system tools-disk cleaner. this will remove a lot of old files. and this free tool will help a lot. http://www.iobit.com run the updates after downloading and then run scan and it will remove a lot of crap left over from past surfing and will fix registry errors as well. good luck.

Try using disk cleanup & remove all restore points. Restore points consume a lot of space.

i dont think that you have been looking after your poor machine.
how big is the hard drive?
the reason its probably full is because you have too much crap installed. id backup the files you want to save and wipe your hard drive clean.
