I am 22 yrs old and i'm about to move out on my own, after finally getting a good job. Any tips for moving out, besides the question, would be most helpful. But my main question is: how much can i expect to pay for council tax and what do i get for it? Or where can i find this information on the web? Thanks

You can find out about Council Tax from any Council website on line. Council Tax is banded, so that those living in the more prosperous areas of a borough pay a higher Council Tax than those living on a Council Estate.

If you are renting in the bedsit furnished sector, you may not actually pay any Council Tax yourself. This may simply be included in your rent. Council Tax is not levied upon the individual citizen but upon the property where they live. In other words, if you rent a room or a bedsit or flat, the tax is levied on the property as a whole. You'll need to find out which band that property is in before you rent, because it will effect the amount you pay.

For further information, check the local town hall where you intend to live.

Look on the website of your local council. There is bound to be info for Council tax. The amount depends on what borough you live in. You get a discount if you live alone.

It pays for your local police, fire services and also council services like taking out the rubbish, social services, trading standards, and many other things. And everyone grumbles about how high it is.

Your local council should have a website, just type the name into a search engine.

IN my experience, you don't get much for it! Officially, it pays for people to collect your rubbish, replace the bulbs in your street lights, etc. We pay an absolute fortune in council tax, and we're not even in a particularly good area. In fact, we don't even get recycling facilities, although technically some of our council tax goes towards this...

How much you pay depends on the type of property that you plan on living in. Why we pay it? To pay for all the job worths that the councils employ and their pensions.
