There are no muscles in a lion's body. Unlike humans, lions acheive locomotion by hydraulic effects of alternating chambers of blood filled cavities which have valves. By pushing in and pumping out sufficient quatities of blood it acheives necessary turgor at different regions of the body. This is extremely efficient as long as there is sufficeint volume of blood reserves.
