Something is going on that is delaying your period. You need to find out what it is. A pelvic exam and a sonogram are the first steps to finding out what's going on. It isn't just women who have had fertility problems who get pelvic exams and it surely isn't only women who are pregnant or have had fertility problems who get sonograms I had many of both last year because I had some problems with my period. I have four children... I think I can safely say that I've never had fertility problems!

I don't know exactly why you're afraid. I know some women who haven't had them before are afraid of the exams and sonograms. While both may be a bit uncomfortable, they aren't painful.

Think about your health. There are alot of things that could be going on to delay your period. If you concentrate more on being healthy, and staying healthy (by finding out what is delaying your period) the exams might be a bit easier.

And, unless you are uncomfortable with your doctor as a person, you don't need to find a new doctor. Your doctor is being thorough and that is never a bad thing when it comes to your health.

Good luck.

There might be something else that the doctor would like to check for. Don't be afraid. Pelvic exams are necessary to determine if there are any abnormalities or if you are pregnant. The sonogram will also determine if there is anything there. It is better to go and find out than to wonder and worry.

Dont be afraid. Many women get pelvic exams on a regular basis. However explain your fears to you doctor and ask a friend to go with you when you need to get the procedures done. You doctor will or should explain everything he does step by step and your friend can help keep you relaxed throughout the procedure.

All in All, both procedures are painless. Just remember to stay relaxed and it will be over before you know it.

Your Doc is a little misguided unless you have had infertility problems in the past. If not then just wait until the 28th day of your missed period and then go buy a pregnancy test. If pregnant then you will know what to do. Not all women ovulate every month and some ovulate twice a month so remember there is no set rule for periods.

Don't be afraid. A lot of times the doctor wants to do a sonogram early on to determine how far along a pregnancy will be. This will give the doctor an idea of how far along, etc.

You're afraid of the exams or you're afraid that there's something wrong?

The exam is nothing to be concerned about. They're not a pleasure cruise, but there's no pain and they're over in a flash. The ultrasound is even easier.

It might seem a little early to be doing tests, but if you are pregnant, you need to know to start your prenatal care. If there's something else wrong, it's best to find out and treat it a.s.a.p.

Don't worry. And good luck.

The person above me was correct with everything except the full bladder situation. As that really depends on the doctor's office and their equipment. They should tell you if you need a full bladder or not.

There is no reason for either. Find a new MD. Good luck!
