That is his agent number. He was part of the 00 agent section of MI5/6. There were other 00 agents in the movies. For example, in Goldeneye, Alec Trevelyan, played by Sean Bean, is referred to as "006" at the beginning of the film. Here's more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alec_Trevelyan

that is number given to an agent in her majesty's secret service. there are only a few that have a double 0 status. However James Bond is the best and has lived the longest.

Not really sure. But one thing that ticks me off about this, everyone in the Bond world, refers to him as "double o" 7. 007 contains no letters. They are all numbers!

the double-O stood for license to kill, a fictional section of the British counter-espionage unit of MI-5. and of course there are more than OO7, but i'm not sure how many. and i think it's double-O, not double zero. is tony right, is it double-zero? he's probably right, i've been trying to look that up.

I don't know the answers to all your ?'s, but 00's have a license to kill (and make that judgement call)
