My friend took the pill and it hasn't work yet, if she planned on keeping it what are the risk or damage to the unborn?

By all means, ask a doctor. Don't take our advice on this unless a Dr. answers this questions.

I don't think there's enough research out there to know exactly what effect it would have on the baby - after all, the RU-486 is designed to abort the child, so I'd imagine there are very few who survive the drug. :(

As far as research on laboratory animals goes, I did find this tidbit: "Neonatal exposure to a single large dose of mifepristone in rats was not associated with any reproductive problems, although chronic low-dose exposure of newborn rats to mifepristone was associated with structural and functional reproductive abnormalities."

If your friend's baby survives and is born, s/he could be okay or could suffer rather severe problems because of the RU-486. If there was any chance that she wanted this baby, the responsible thing to do would have been to consider long and hard before using the drug.

Best of luck to her.
