... put knife blades and fork tines facing upwards or down? I have no manual for mine, and this is an ongoing battle with my bf. Can you support this with a link, please so I can prove I am right in thinking you load them facing up, so I can end this once and for all with my very pedantic man?

As an issue of safety then the down method makes sense, but will not clean the knives etc. as well. Think of how the water sprays. How can they be cleaned inside the silverware basket? Dishes should face inward and down. Silverware (knives) up to get the best job done. I put mine in the farthest away slot to prevent my wrist crossing over them as I load and big knives and odd big tools or spoons in a row of the upper-glass- drawer area.

Fact is that it makes absolutely no difference wich way you put in the silver. Either your dishwasher cleans it or it sucks. Try just jumling the stuff in there and you'll see what I mean. As far as your boyfriend goes, it's probably just how he's always done it. I know I like to have the wares in there with all the handles facing down so that it's easier to unload into the drawer. That's just a personal preference though.
Everyone needs a little something to argue about. It's part of a healthy relationship as well as the human condition. Good luck sweetie.

The boyfriend is correct. Besides being a safety issue, the water jets spray from the bottom and the top. They will get cleaned very well with the tines facing down and you will not get stuck or cut. He is looking out for your welfare.

Catfish,
I'm sure your boyfriend is concerned for your safety. Putting the tines and blades down would be a lot safer than the other way.

It is a matter of preference. I put them in with the blades/tines down so I can grab them by the handles when I unload them.

the knifes or placed sharp in down to prevent injuries, the forks are placed one up and one down for better cleaning, when placed the same way they tend to lay to close together not allowing the water to flow as needed.
