Talc is a mineral, magnesium sulfate originally used in lanterns because in formed strings and absorbed moisture, It is not good for for babies. No powder should be used on babies because it can easily get into their lungs. My baby is 33 and I went with my mother's old remedy of corn starch because it absorbs moisture better than any powder, it's natural, and not harmful. Only use it on the baby's bottom though, It also prevents diaper rash better than any powder will. That's just my opinion and it worked for all my babies. Best advice you can get is probably from your grandmother. Some of the oldest remedies or usages are the best ones now.

To answer your questions: 1) Yes, you can use baby powder to keep your swimming pool cover dry. 2)They are not exactly interchangeable-- Both baby powder and talcum powder contain talc, but baby powder is made for babies' delicate skin so yes, you can use it for other uses but its best to avoid regular talcum powder for babies' use. Hope that helps!

If you going to use baby powder make sure it's the kind that has no talc in it. Different companies do put out powders that are made out of corn starch. These are healthier and I have found it cures diaper rash a lot quicker, even more than the creams, also! Good luck!

Baby powder is not good for babies.
It can affect the baby's respiratory system and talcum powder may be linked to some forms of cancer.
Don't use it!

Talcum powder is primarily made up of talc which is harmful to baby's lungs when it is inhaled (even worse lots of talc is contaminated with asbestos fibers). Most baby powders these days are made up of mostly corn starch which is much less harmful when inhaled...although you should still be careful to not make a cloud of powder when using it.
