Anytime is a great time to go to Taiwan. I went there a little more than two years ago, and have been missing it ever since. Great country. I do know that it's really really hot in July, and from what I understand, very humid as well -- cooler of course in the mountains. (I went in October.) Don't worry about the typhoons. The Central Weather Bureau (and the media) keeps excellent track of the typhoons, and it's relatively easy to stay out of harm's way during the typhoons, provided you take the appropriate precautions.

Be careful of what your friends tell you. The typhoon season usually starts in June, and can go until December. Yes, we had a typhoon here in Taiwan in December before, although that was unusual. So, if you are willing to rule out travelling to Taiwan for up to 6 months just because of a possible one-day typhoon, then you can only come between February and June.

I have been there in December. Everything was fine, nothing was "shut down". I thought the weather was nice, between 55 to 65 F. And now a comment to FiShFrEnZy. You are ill informed and should not give such irresponsible answers to people, they might believe you. Taiwan is not a Communist Country. They are a democracy, and have NEVER been Communist. When Mao took over Mainland China, Chang Kai Shek and his followers moved to Taiwan so they wouldn't have to live in a Communist country. They DO have freedom of religion there, and it is certainly not dangerous to be a Christian there. They are very tolerant. Although they will have Christmas decorations up in many public areas, it is not the main religion there. They mostly have Buddhist Temples, rather than Churches. The people there are very friendly. I have never liked the native food there, but in Taipei there are McDonalds, Subway, Starbucks, Pizza Hut, etc. Many of the people speak a little English, and the business people usually speak fairly decent English. The hotels and restaurants are typically cheaper than those in the US. You have never been to Taiwan and you obviously don't know a thing about it.

anytime of year is good to come to Taiwan, July to the end of September tend to be hot and humid.

Typhoons do happen, but its alot like a snowstorm is in North America but noisier. As long as you stay indoors and avoid going out you will be fine, and ignoring a place because of the possibility of 1 or 2 days of bad weather is ignorant.

There is plenty of Air Conditioned spots especially if you use the MRT in Taipei.

Going up to the mountains is beautiful and a good way to escape the humidity of the cities. Just be aware of weather forecasts and stay alert!

Why not? It does get hot and humidity is on the high side, but everywhere is air conditioned (the busses are usually so cold you have to carry a jacket :-) Depending on where you go, you can expect more or less rain. Keelung is the rainiest place, and the whole east coast is cooler, but has more rain. The chain of mountains blocks off the storms so it's a lot drier on the west coast. Typhoons usually not bad and hit Philippines instead. many typhoons turn north before they get to Taiwan. Soooo don't worry and enjoy yourself!

it would be a good idea to go during autum because the summer is too hot and i mean hot hot hot and spring rains too much and winter is not too cold but sometimes there is blasts of cold air mass coming from the north ....so the best time to visit is october and november ...i used to live there but now i only visit there in the autum and don't worry about typoon and monsoon is usually not that serious as long as u stay in the city and don't go to beach or mountains when the typhoon is crossing
have fun!!!!

Singing River is correct, July in Taiwan is hotter than hell! When I was there last July there were days it was 38 degrees centigrade and the humidity was 100%... If you're going in July, you'd best be indoors from 10am until about 6:00pm.

Good luck and drink lots of water!

Not only will there be typhoons, but also it will be extremely hot in cities (over 30 Degrees Celcius these years) when there are no typhoons coming.
