Refrigerator compartmeny ices up on my fridge freezer, any advice, is it the termostat and can they be?

since red rooster thinks fixer upper is a novice, I think Red rooster is a little too technical. How about we try a practical solution first, The ice can be formed when door gaskets are leaking and letting in warm moist air which condenses and then freezes causing a ice build up. Check your gaskets closely for leaks, put a sheet of paper or a dollar in the door and close and see if the paper pulls out easily, if so you have an air leak.

Now comes the hard part to believe but it works. Clean the gasket, clean the door where the gasket makes contact, and then coat with a thin coat of Vaseline, yep Vaseline all the way around and you will find the door makes better contact and the air leak will probably stop. This is cheap and you can do it yourself, if that doesn't work, then have it checked out, if the insulation has gotten wet (which I doubt) this will also allow time for it to dry out,

You didn't indicated where the ice accumulates, if its not near the door then you may have a defroster problem. even if it is near the drain hole it could still be a air leak. This happens in units that have ice/water dispensers. there is a little door that should close and keep warm air from entering thru the ice hole and it starts freezing up.

Your fridge section is actually cooled by the air flow from the freezer section... try "warming up the freezer temp" a bit by adjusting the control a notch warmer... if it's at it's lowest setting now, get the thermostat looked at and have it replaced.

Fixerrubbery, gave a novice answer to a novice question, and sounds like a novice. From what I can tell from your incomplete complaint, the control is fine, but the frost free equipment is not, and the insulation between the freezer and food compartment may be wet, and letting thermal penetration. Call for proffesional help.
